According to the American Heart Association, coronary heart disease is America's No. 1 killer. Stroke is No. 3 and a leading cause of serious disability. African-Americans are especially at risk for stroke and Alzheimer's. They have a higher risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular (heart) disease, all conditions that may damage blood vessels.
