Bro. Henry Mitchell

Ever since a young boy Henry was drawn to music.  Growing up in the church he naturally gravitated towards the keyboard, but particularly he dreamed of playing the Hammond Organ.  He dreamed of one day not only playing the organ but owning his own Hammond.

Early on it was but a dream, but then as fate would have it, Henry was introduced to the A.A. Allen Ministries. Little did he know when his mom took him to the revival meeting, he would come to know and be inspired by Gospel Great Organist, David Davis.

Henry was mesmerized by David’s mastery of the Hammond – he had to learn to play the organ, but more importantly he had to learn to play it “David Davis Style”.  And learn it he did!  If you close your eyes and listen, you can barely tell the difference!

Henry mastered the David Davis style, and his music career took off from there.  He had the opportunity to play organ for the late R.W. Shambach, WV Grant Ministries and Pastor David Paul, some of the most renowned evangelists of all the times. He was music director for Bill Wilson, Overseer of Metro Ministries which is one of the largest churches dedicated to the support of children in the United States.

Henry later worked in the youth music ministry for the world-renowned Brooklyn Tabernacle Church under the leadership of Pastor Jim and Carol Cymbala and Salvation and Deliverance Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor William Brown.  From there Henry served for several years, as the music director at World Changers Church, New York; under the leadership of Pastor Creflo Dollar.

Regardless of his hectic schedule, Henry is always in demand.

He always carves out time to support the efforts of the Labor of Love Ensemble which affords him the ability to exercise his prowess of David Davis’ style, the sound that Labor of Love Ensemble continue to keep alive as they honor the songs that David Davis played or arranged along with that of their mentor Eugene Martin of the A.A. Allen ministries.

Henry is selfless, supporting local friends and powering the music of artists like Hezekiah Walker, Andre Crouch, Vickie Winans, Dorothy Norwood, Eugene Martin, and Wess Morgan, just to name a few.

But amidst all the gigs, concerts and ministries he’s worked with; Henry will always bring it back home to New York and hammer out the praise impromptu.  Henry’s talent is always relevant because he takes his work serious despite how effortless his style may appear to be.  He’s just always listening, studying to show himself approved, a workman worthy of his hire.   So, there’s no surprise that his longtime friendship and collaboration with the Labor of Love Ensemble affords him to be their best supporter and of course honorary member of the band.
