A native of the Bronx, New York, Jonathan Woodby has faithfully served in music ministry from his youth, touching countless lives with his anointed gift. His journey began at Saint Johns Mt. Pisgah Pentecostal Church on Lenox Avenue and 132nd Street in Harlem, where he played under the leadership of Bishop Lenora Smith. Following her passing, Jonathan continued his ministry under the guidance of Elder Daisy Horan. Each Sunday evening, their services were broadcast on WADO radio, featuring their powerful choir and Jonathan’s unmistakable sound on the Hammond B-3 organ—a sound that left a lasting impression on listeners throughout New York.

At the age of 24, Jonathan answered a higher calling during an R.W. Schambach revival at the Audubon Ballroom in the Bronx. He joined the Schambach ministry team as their featured organist, bringing his unique musical style to tent revivals across the country. For the next eight years, his “signature sound” became a central feature of the Schambach Miracle Revivals, particularly at the legendary camp meetings held annually under the Major Deegan Expressway at East 149th Street and Exterior Street in the Bronx.

In 1983, Jonathan was led back to New York and began a new chapter at the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church under the leadership of Pastor Jim Cymbala and Carol Cymbala. His 25-year tenure there would see him contribute to six Grammy Award-winning albums, a testament to the spiritual and musical excellence of the ministry. His entrance into Brooklyn Tabernacle came through the recommendation of longtime friend and gospel artist Alvin Slaughter.

Today, Jonathan continues his lifelong commitment to gospel music as the organist at All Nation Church in Newport News, Virginia, where he has served faithfully for the past six years.
